Program Overview

The Conflict of Interest Program:

  • Promotes an Ethical Culture by ensuring all University members—faculty and staff—conduct their activities with honesty and fairness, avoiding situations where personal interests could improperly influence their professional judgment or actions.

  • Fosters Transparency by creating a transparent disclosure environment, which helps maintain trust within the University community and with external stakeholders.

  • Maintains Academic Integrity by preventing conflicts where outside activities might affect the objectivity of an employee’s work at the University, thus preserving the integrity of academic and professional
    standards.

The Conflict of Interest Program simplifies the disclosure process for employees to prevent bias and ensure compliance with regulations. It includes three related concepts, each focusing on a key aspect of conflict disclosure. Click on the icons below for an overview of each concept.

Members of the Notre Dame community are dedicated to recognizing and avoiding conflicts of interest in their roles. They must also identify and manage any activities or relationships that could create the appearance of a conflict. The University believes that clear guidelines for reporting and managing actual, potential, and perceived conflicts will help faculty and staff uphold integrity.

In addition, Notre Dame Research maintains a research-specific Conflict of Interest Program. Click here to be directed to the Notre Dame Research COI webpage.
